Lucy Jones (b. 1955, London) studied at the Byam Shaw School of Drawing and Painting (1974-76) and Camberwell School of Art (1976-79) gaining first-class honours, before going on to do a Masters Degree at the Royal College of Art (1979-82). She won the Rome Scholarship for Painting and studied at the British School of Rome for two years (1983-84).
Since returning from Rome Lucy Jones has had many solo exhibitions in the UK, New York and California and with the Flowers Gallery, which represents her work. In 2014 her show “Looking Out Looking In” opened at Kings Place, London, and travelled to Northumbria University Gallery.
She has participated in many group exhibitions including the National Portrait Gallery Portrait Award Exhibition, London, Wolverhampton Art Gallery, the Threadneedle Prize, Mall Galleries, (prize winner 2009), John Moore’s Exhibition, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool (prize winner 1995), New British Acquisitions, Metropolitan Museum, New York (1987), Germinations, Trilateral Exhibition, Kassel, Edinburgh, London and Marseilles (1983-84), The Naked Portrait, Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh and Compton Verney, Warwickshire (2007) and The Drawing Gallery, Powys.
Her work is in many public and private collections including the Arts Council Collection, Deutsche Bank AG, Government Art Collection, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, New Hall, Cambridge, Procter & Gamble, Rugby Art Gallery & Museum, Sheffield City Art Gallery, Unilever Plc, University of Reading, University of Southampton, Usher Gallery, Lincoln.
She was awarded the prestigious prize for self portrait; The Ruth Borchard Prize, in 2021
She lives and works in Ludlow, Shropshire.
